About Me

My photo
IMAGINATION IS THE EYE OF THE SOUL Joseph Joubert. I am a mother of four...I still remember the smile that refused to go away for weeks after our daughters birth. To have a little girl appear after three sons seemed such a miracle. I have always enjoyed My Doll World, sharing it with Lara when she was little. Today I design knitted outfits for miniature dolls and enjoy every minute of it. The fact that the outfits are removable is what makes it so special for me. Using ever finer threads has opened so many MINIATURE DESIGN opportunities.

Miniature Knitting in the Studio

I had to take a deep breath this morning....The square of my shawl was not square!!!

One of the more difficult things to get right in miniature knitting is to
make a square. You measure and believe it is fine.
Then you wash the square and the fabric takes on a life of its own.

Now I had pretty much got it down pat when working in the Venne 70/2
Working with Madeira catona 80 thread is a whole new ball game.

I had finished the square, washed it and blocked it with the edging.

This morning I had to unpick the crochet edge I had done and the cast off edge.
I had sewn in the cast on and end threads .....MISTAKE.
When unpicking remember to hold the stitches of the fabric with your left hand, then gently tug the thread to undo the knitting, if the thread sticks use a sewing needle to help dislodge the thread, remember the square was already washed taking out the dressing of the thread so it is not so slippery any more......

I DID IT ....STITCHES ALL SAFELY BACK ON THE NEEDLES.

I have taken the day off from knitting shawls.

  5. In my knitting I am constantly trying out new :stuff" techniques, size needle etc.
I use haya hyja knitting needles which to me are wonderful, they don't tarnish as in go rusty.

One thing all steel needles do to ones work is give it a greyish tinge, so I have to wash all the garments after having sewn them up.

I hear my Mom in my minds ear. You can only knit when you know where you are in a lace pattern and can fix a mistake in your work.

It is the very fine needles that I use which causes the challenge. One needs an even finer neele to unpick "frog" a row successfully.

Now I am beginning to babble.

Thanks for all your kind words.
